If you're in the market for an FK2 Type R, chances are you're somewhat of an enthusiast... the lairy styling turns the average buyer off before they even think about reading the spec sheet, however if you do get far enough to have a skim over the fine print or go for a test drive, any questions about the styling becomes history thanks to the phenomenal driving experience the FK2 Type R provides. We personally love the way the FK2 looks - it's no stretch to liken it to a traditional Japanese samurai; angular, aggressive and a wide stance.
It doesn't stop on the outside either - take a seat inside of the Type R and you're transported to the cockpit of something out of a sci-fi film. The first thing you'll notice is the impossibly comfortable bucket seats that, despite being fairly deep, hug you perfectly and force you to assume a great driving position. The dashboard, centre console and infotainment surround the driver, reminiscent of the iconic Toyota A80 interior.
Engine
Arguably the most important detail is it's mighty K20C1. The FK2 came equipped with a 2 litre, inline 4, 16 valve, turbocharged monster outputting a whopping 305HP, a 50% increase over it's predecessor the FN2 Type R. This more than made up for it's increased weight, coming in at 1,382kg. This combination propelled the car 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 168mph and jaw-dropping consumption of 38.7mpg.
All of this packaged in a 5 door, 4 seater amounts to an easily justifiable daily that can drive to a track and lay some blisteringly fast lap times.
