Dream Weekly Refresh: Sunday 21st April '24

Welcome back to another instalment of Dream Weekly Refresh - this week we've got an exciting lineup of new products for you to gawk at, as well as a good insight to some of the major works we've had in the workshop this week.

    HKS Hipermax Coilovers (R + S) - FL5 Type R

HKS are renowned globally for their superior performance products, some of which being their Hipermax Coilovers. The FL5 Type R has recently received the HKS touch with both an R and an S kit.

The HKS Hipermax-R Series has evolved all of its handling, traction, and ease of fit to a new series by concentrating on the technological capabilities cultivated over the past 9 years since the launch of MAX IV SP. The HIPERMAX R Series has achieved overwhelming performance that is unrivalled by any other brand.

HKS Hipermax S Coilovers go beyond ride comfort and handling performance, they introduce a new standard that targets comfort whilst driving but also the peace of mind generated when driving a high-performance vehicle - this uncompromising balance delivers on all demands of street driving.

Each kit has a long list of very different, in-depth features. Head to our website to find out more.

PBS Rear Brake Pads - FK2 Type R

PBS (Performance Braking Solutions) brake pads are made by racing drivers for racing drivers, working at high temperatures with excellent pedal feel, consistent braking with low dust, and great rotor life. These are by far the best bang for buck pads on the market giving great consistency, longevity, and bite at both hot and cold temperatures.

PBS offer their rear brakes pads in 2 compounds for the FK2 - each with a different use case in mind.

The ProRace compound is a ceramic graphite material that has great initial bite, excellent control, and feel with a powerful stopping power of 0.36 to 0.58mu this compound is used in many race series with great results including race wins and overall championships it is also the compound of choice for many track day users. (Working temp 0-800c)

The ProTrack compound is also ceramic metallic material that has milder initial bite than the ProRace compound with excellent control and feels with powerful stopping power of 0.40 to 0.48mu this compound is designed for light occasional track use or wet conditions and for race series that have used low grip tyre with less noise and dust (Working temp 0-700c)

PBS also offer front pads for FK2/FK8/FL5 and rear pads for the FK8/FL5!

    COMING SOON - Mugen FL5 Type R (Group-A)

Since Mugen unveiled the Group-A FL5 Type R body kit at Tokyo Auto Salon at the start of this year, we've been eager to see more - the wait is finally over!

Group-A comprises of a front splitter, rear diffuser, side skirts (providing a 25% increase in downforce compared to OEM) as well 19" fully forged BBS "FR10" wheels, MS-C full bucket seats and a carbon fibre centre shift panel, carbon fibre re-trimmed steering wheel, retrimmed shift knob and what looks to be some different carpets.

The rear end is also being seen to with a set of LED tail lights and a single exit exhaust, however these are due to release later this year.

We'll be adding this Mugen kit to our website as soon as possible - keep your eyes peeled!

VTC Pulleys, Timing Chain and FK8 Clutch Upgrade - Major FK2 Work!

This FK2 joined us this week to have some fairly major works carried out - the car had started to rattle upon cold start, an early symptom of the common VTC pulley failure. Rather than letting the car get much worse, the owner wisely got in contact and organised for us to replace both VTC Pulleys and the timing chain. While the car was in with us, we also fitted the OEM single mass clutch conversion kit from Exedy - this kit replaces the FK2's dual mass clutch with the single mass found in the FK8 Type R. The benefits of fitting this clutch include improved acceleration and a dramatic reduction in rev-hang.

If you think you may be experiencing early symptoms of VTC Pulley failure and would like to have your car inspected or repaired - get in contact!

Another FK2 Head Gasket - FK2 Head Gasket Failure

An issue that both ourselves and FK2 owners have noticed becoming more common is head gasket failure, especially on vehicles producing more power than standard. The owner of this vehicle has opted to go for a higher end replacement head gasket from C-S Pro, rather than a genuine Honda gasket.
