DESCRIPTION

Essex Racing designed AP Racing Pro 5000 R Radi-CAL competition brake kit is designed and tested specifically for track day enthusiasts and for drivers who demand the utmost performance from their cars. These kits offer superlative performance for both normal driving and demanding track day sessions.

The CP9660 and CP9668 calipers share many similarities, including a close visual resemblance. Both are forged, two-piece designs with a removable bridge for quick and simple pad changes. They share the same ventilated stainless steel, domed-back pistons with anti-knockback springs, and high temperature, low drag internal piston seals. Piston bore sizes are the same (27mm x 2, 31.8mm x 2, 38.1mm x 2) and both calipers have a hard anodized finish. They also feature internal fluid porting that eliminates an external fluid crossover pipe, and they each have only two inner, and no outer, bleed screws. The two designs also use the same pad backing plate shape, and share the same 180mm mounting centres and 42mm mounting offset on the inner caliper halves. They run on discs of similar size, but that's where the two designs diverge a bit.

The primary difference between the CP9660 and CP9668 is width. Even though the mounting offset on both calipers is the same (making them interchangeable on the same disc), both halves of the CP9660 are narrower than those of the CP9668. When installed on the same disc as the CP9660, the CP9668 will sit 11mm further inboard, while also extending 14mm further outward towards the wheel spokes.

The additional width of the CP9668 increases unsprung weight but was implemented to allow for a thicker brake pad to extend pad life. The CP9668 leverages a 25mm thick pad, while the CP9660 accepts an 18mm thick pad (standard OEM pads approx. 12mm).

Essex Designed Pad Tension Blocks are precision machined from billet aluminium, hard anodized, and topped with a heat-treated stainless steel spring. These anti-rattle blocks install in place of the original pad retention blocks in AP Racing's CP9660/CP9668 calipers. They place a small amount of tension on the top of the pad, substantially decreasing its movement inside the caliper. Included in each Pad Tension Kit are four pad tension blocks, which is enough for two AP Racing calipers.

• DS2500 (Fast Road/ Light Track) - Although we always recommend using a dedicated race pad for the track, the DS2500 is one of the best hybrid street/track pads on the market. It features the moderately high bite and solid fade resistance of a track pad, with the relatively low dust and noise levels of a street pad. When used as a street pad, it can produce some squeal on certain vehicle platforms. During aggressive driving the DS2500 is known for its flat torque curve, which means as temperatures go up, the response through the brake pedal remains consistent.

• DS1.11 (Track) - One of Ferodo Racing's latest endurance race pad offerings. It has slightly less bite at high temps. vs their older DS3000, but doesn't decompose nearly as quickly under extended heavy use on the track. The DS1.11 is known for its extremely flat torque curve, which means that as temperatures go up, the response through the brake pedal remains consistent. The DS1.11 can be thrashed all day without having it burn up or fade, it's easy on discs, and doesn't have many of the judder or vibration issues that competing products have. If you want an extremely solid, all round race pad that will perform well and last a long time, the DS1.11 is the perfect choice.

• DSUNO (Track) - Ferodo Racing has made great strides in pad development over the past few years, and DSUNO is their latest offering. For customers who enjoy the performance of the DS1.11, but just want a little more bite, we recommend the DSUNO. It doesn't wear quite as well as the DS1.11, but it does offer a higher overall mu once it reaches track temperatures.

Brembo's GT systems are designed and tested specifically for track day enthusiasts and for drivers who demand the utmost performance from their cars. These kits offer superlative performance for both normal driving and demanding track day sessions. 

The heart of the kit consists of monoblock calipers machined from a single billet of cast aluminium, which ensure outstanding rigidity and minimised deformation. The discs supplied in the kit feature an exclusive venting system that improves cooling capacity and increases resistance to cracking caused by thermal shock by over 40%. Cross-drilled and slotted finishes are designed and executed with meticulous precision. These holes or slots in the braking surface help dissipate heat and eliminate brake dust and gases.

Type III brake discs have a motorsport developed face with an emphasis on a high initial response while maintaining a smooth pedal release.

• Benefit: The highest overall braking confidence, control and allows the driver to spend less time on the brake pedal. When chasing the fastest lap time, less time on the brake pedal typically leads to a quicker lap time. 
• Drawback: Any disc with an aggressive face type like the Type III will have a higher chance to mechanically abrade the pad and disc surface leading to quicker or uneven pad wear. However, this really depends on variables such as car setup or track layout.

Slotted brake discs put an emphasis on stable brake feel and improve resilience against thermal cracking.

• Benefit: Stable braking feel at all temperatures, low disc wear, and continuously refreshing the braking surface for optimum performance.
• Drawback: They have the lowest “initial response” or “bite” compared to cross-drilled or Type III discs.

Cross-drilled brake discs are suitable for a wide range of applications, operating temperatures and driving environments (especially wet weather).

• Benefit: They offer the highest initial response of all the available disc face types, while continuously refreshing the braking surface and being also typically a bit lighter.
• Drawback: Cross-drilled discs are generally more prone to heat checking and thermal cracking if used consistently at extremely high temperatures. This, however, really depends on the track, driver, and chassis setup.

These discs are direct replacements for the OE brake discs and will fit straight to your vehicle without any further modifications required. You will receive a pair of handed discs with specific cooling features for the left and right side of the axle. All TAROX 'Bespoke' discs are made to order at our facility in Italy and are available with the following facings:

The 'Bespoke' way...

These discs are part of our special 'Bespoke' range which we have compiled to provide a performance solution for vehicles for which parts aren't easily obtainable. Vehicles such as classic sports marques or modern high-performance cars whose drivers seek higher levels of performance from their brake setup. All discs in the 'Bespoke' range are individually CNC machined from a solid piece of steel billet - they are never made in a cast. Once the billet has been machined to the required size it is heat treated and then cooled to unify the structure of the steel and improve strength and durability. This keeps the disc more stable at extreme temperatures. Characteristics such as warping, cracking, fade and knock off are all massively reduced. The longevity of the disc and pad are both extended dramatically. The toughened disc is then grooved and/or drilled as required and finally finished by hand. Each disc is manually ground to a tolerance approaching 0.015mm creating a perfectly level surface to ensure that the discs will run true. In the case of a two-piece disc, the billet rotor is then mated to a CNC machined alloy bell which has been hard anodized for protection from the elements.

The Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) for these discs is rated at 57kg per square mm. To put this figure into perspective, the standard for racing spec discs is usually 38kg per square mm and the CEE standard UTS is 25kg per square mm.

F2000 discs are the ideal solution for those who alternate the use of the car on the road with serious sessions on the track. The curved grooves on the braking surface deglaze the pads and allow the disc to run cooler.

Compared to G88 the F2000 discs feature less grooves which strike the perfect balance between heat dissipation and strength ensuring they cope with even the most demanding use on track.

All F2000 discs are based on original equipment specification, TUV approved castings, heat treated for strength and hand finished to ensure the smoothest possible braking surface. TAROX Corsa pads are their ideal partner for track day sessions.

 When developing these brake discs, the mission set to EBC Brakes Racing was to engineer one of the highest quality 2-piece brake disc on today's marketplace, at any price point. Consequently, these discs are manufactured from the finest materials and take advantage of state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques, achieving a brake disc of exceptionally high quality.

All outer friction rings are cast from a high-copper, high-carbon G3500 disc alloy giving them a high resistance to wear and cracking, even when used on track or for racing. The cast iron outer ring ‘floats’ on EBC's patented SD-Drive technology bobbins, allowing the friction ring to expand and contract freely by up to 3mm when subjected to the extreme heat generated from hard braking.

The bells are precision machined from aerospace grade aluminium then hard anodised for great looks and excellent durability.

All bobbins are machined from a single piece of stainless steel, preventing unsightly corrosion and ensuring the outer ring continues to float freely, even after years of exposure to road elements. EBC Racing's 2-piece floating discs offer a low maintenance solution that is at home on both the public roads and the race track. Each bobbin location also features an anti-rattle spring clip, meaning these discs are totally silent in operation and do not have the ‘off brake disc rattle’ that is common with many other ‘full race’ 2-piece disc systems.

Upgrading from a 1-piece disc to a 2-piece floating disc will shave crucial kilograms off your vehicles un-sprung rotational mass, providing a noticeable improvement in corner entry turn in, tyre road holding, fuel economy and increasing the BHP at the wheels. Additionally, when the cast iron friction ring becomes worn after a period of use, the outer ring can be replaced independently of the other disc components, allowing the centre hub and stainless bobbins to be re-used which significantly reduces long term running costs.

•              The fully floating disc allows for the friction ring to grow independently of the hub dramatically increasing stopping performance and service life.

•              Our disc will be using stainless steel bobbins and nuts and this will ensure that the bobbins can not corrode in the slots in the disc ring which is a problem common with many other floating discs as the floating function of the disc can lock up with corrosion.

•              Each of our high performance 2 piece disc rings will be cast out of a ‘G3500’ disc alloy this is constructed with a high carbon and copper content and is the highest grade of casting alloy available.

•              By using the ‘G3500’ disc alloy this gives us greater durability and a higher thermal conductivity compared to all other lower quality disc alloys.

•              Each disc will have 48 curved vanes and most importantly will be handed to improve cooling efficiency, unlike many OEM discs these days where the curved vanes run in the wrong direction on one side of the car.

•              The discs are all centre split castings and this gives a more balanced casting compared to a moulded out casting. This means that the disc is less prone to heat distortion and failure.

•              Part of our testing procedure we run the disc through the new industry standard which is called the R90 disc test. To give you an idea about the test it involves running the vehicle up to V-max and doing 2 stops one after the other for 150 cycles.  To give you an idea of how tough this test is we have found generally a OEM disc would only get halfway through this test before failing. Our disc has gone through 2 of these tests with no heat surface crazing or cracking. This demonstrates that our disc can withstand the harshest of track use.
